My Story
Salt Lore began with a curiosity about the food we eat and what it gives us.
As I entered my 30s, I found myself thinking less about health in the short term and more about the body and brain I hope will carry me through a long life. I wanted to understand nutrition beyond diets and rules: the vitamins, minerals, plants, ingredients, and everyday foods that nourish us, and what the research actually tells us about their role in our health.
That curiosity became deeply personal when my dad was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Brain health and longevity suddenly mattered to me in an entirely different way. It made me want to learn more about the relationship between food, the brain, mental well-being, and the many everyday choices that can support us throughout our lives.
My own experiences with OCD have shaped that curiosity too. They’ve made me especially interested in the connection between food and mental health, while also reminding me that pursuing health shouldn’t become another source of fear or perfection. I want to learn what the science says without turning food into a collection of rules.
And that’s really where Salt Lore lives.
I love cooking, growing food, preserving what’s in season, making things from scratch, and understanding the traditions and ingredients behind what we eat. Here you’ll find nourishing everyday meals, slower weekend recipes, bread, preserving, seasonal cooking, sips and tonics, and plenty of something sweet.
Salt Lore is a place to be curious about food and the ways it can nourish our bodies and brains, while remembering that food is also pleasure, tradition, creativity, and something meant to be enjoyed.
I want to take good care of the life ahead of me without forgetting to enjoy the life I’m living now.
